Our clients owned this barn and the main dwelling house. They chose to downsize in their retirement and convert the barn and sell the main house. It turned out really well. Using the existing openings for windows and doors, this gave enough light for the proposed rooms. Included in the planning approval, we managed to obtained a small extension at the far end of the barn to house an en-suite, utility and wardrobe area. Keeping the barns character we kept the oak roof trusses exposed to create a lovely vaulted ceiling over the living area. Two staircases to either end of the barn takes you up to a study one end and a guest bedroom and art studio at the other.

Our clients parents owned this barn and sold it to them to convert as their family home. It lent itself really well for conversion into a dwelling. Open plan living on the ground floor, providing kitchen, dining and family room. Pocket door into a spacious utility boot room. Glazed corner sitting room overlooking the garden beyond and a bedroom with en-suite. Within the roof space, the first floor encompasses a master en-suite bedroom, two bedrooms and bathroom.

Construction work took over two years with the family living on a building site in a mobile home. It needed underpinning to structurally stabilise the barn and steelwork to support the roof structure to enable the roof space to be habitable.

This grade 2 listed barn will make a wonderful dwelling. Building work on the conversion will take place during 2024, so hopefully we can slowly show how the conversion progresses.

With the design the barn will house a cosy lounge, a vaulted dining hall area and large kitchen with doors opening out into the garden. Stairs lead onto a balcony overlooking the dining area. Cutting through the structural oak roof trusses doors lead to two bedrooms at each end of the building and a bathroom squeezed into the middle. When completed the building will provided a lovely characterful home.
